The 47-8 milk jug is designed by Inga Dora Johannsdottir for the 105 Sustainability course which, for the last 5 years, has been taught at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts. The goal of the course is to teach students in Product Design about "the importance of sustainability and diversity in local areas." The jug is made of porcelain and silver which has the ability to kill bacteria in only 6 minutes. The shape of the spout is inspired by old milk churns and the title, "47-8" comes from silver´s atomic number and the serial number of one particular farm in Iceland but all farms in Iceland producing milk are given certain numbers which are engraved on each of their milk churns. I´m not sure if the jug is in production but hope so because I like it and would love to have one of my own!
